Hy-Vee is an employee-owned chain of supermarkets in the Midwestern and Southern United States.
Hy-Vee Seasons print magazine has been around for over 15 years, with the purpose of marrying traditional lifestyle content –like recipes– with valuable purchasing information so people can easily incorporate the ideas and tips presented into their own life. Recognizing the major shift in the way people access information, Seasons was launched as an interactive digital experience during the Summer of 2021.
New content was added to the digital version, making it easier for customers to engage & get what they see in Seasons print magazine. Seasons digital averages 1k visitors per day, with 447k total visitors since it launched. You can visit it here

For the digital version, we took the print layout and kept the essence of its design, highlighting different sections and making the content more interactive and engaging through carousels and menus, for instance.
Two layouts were designed for each article: one for desktop or horizontal screens and another one for mobile or vertical screens. In the most recent issues of the digital magazine, accessibility considerations were implemented to allow users with different needs to have more control over how they interact with the content. A concrete example of these considerations is the motion button at the top of the stories, which allows users to turn off all animations.
Here are some of the stories I designed:
